600 years university city
In 2025, the city is celebrating the 600th anniversary of its university, and six centuries of wonder and curiosity.
One of Europe's oldest universities was founded in Leuven in 1425. In the centuries that followed, the town and its university grew into a world-renowned centre of knowledge and science.
Besides being one of the oldest, KU Leuven is also Europe's most innovative university. On top of that, with 60 000 students and more than 20 000 employees, it is also the largest university in Belgium.
2025 is a special year: the university of Leuven is celebrating its 600th anniversary. We want to celebrate with all of you! Join us at the festive opening weekend on 15 and 16 February 2025.
