Saturday

  • Morning: welcome in Leuven

Had a good journey? It’s time to get to know Leuven, and what better way to do that than to view the city from above? You will also see your first stop from afar: the tower of the University Library. During the climb you will discover the city’s turbulent history.

Once you reach the top, your efforts are rewarded with a stunning panorama. Once you climb back down, head straight for Grote Markt. Here you will find the impressive Gothic Town Hall of Leuven. The same square is home to the renovated Saint Peter’s Church. Venture inside and discover The Last Supper by Dieric Bouts and other art treasures. Feel like a walk before lunch? Then set off for the Great Beguinage. Lose yourselves in the narrow streets and discover the most charming spots for a group photo. #BFFinLeuven!

  • Lunch: you'll be spoilt for choice

Worked up an appetite on your first walk along the highlights of Leuven? Leuven is packed with fantastic lunch addresses where you’ll be impressed by the price-quality ratio! There are lots of options in the city centre. A gourmet burger, salad or Thai noodle soup? You'll find it all here. Or, you could walk to the trendy Vaartkom. This neighbourhood is in full development and THE place to be if you are looking for original places to eat.

  • Afternoon: something for everyone

After lunch, it's time to head for the shopping streets. You won’t get better style advice than from your girlfriends, right? Leuven also offers something for everyone here. In Diestsestraat, Brusselsestraat and on Bondgenotenlaan you will find the larger chains, while smaller boutiques with more unique items can be found near Parijsstraat and Mechelsestraat.

Even those who are not looking for a new outfit will love Leuven. For example, it’s really worth popping into Animaux Spéciaux, a wonderful universe where you will find artfully stuffed animals and insects in addition to unique decoration and fun paper products. Book lovers can visit Barbóék. Here you can enjoy a coffee between the bookshelves, ideal for a quiet chat. Finally, those with a sweet tooth will be delighted with one of the many chocolatiers you will find in Leuven. Did you know that in Leuven more and more shops are focusing on sustainability? Fans of fair fashion are sure to find something here too!

  • Evening: discover Leuven by night

Hungry after your first full day in Leuven? Quickly go in search of a restaurant where you can enjoy a leisurely meal. Fancy food sharing, world kitchens or Belgian cuisine? There’s plenty of choice. Don’t forget to book in time, some addresses are very popular!

You can end the evening in one of the atmospheric bars on the Oude Markt, which has certainly earned its nickname ‘the longest bar’. Or, would you rather attend a performance or sing along with one of your favourite artists? Be sure to check out the programme of music centre Het Depot, or cultural centres 30CC or STUK in advance!

Sunday

  • Morning: caffeine please

After a great night out, there is no better way to start the day than with a full breakfast. You can do this in your hotel, or opt to check out one of the cosy coffee bars in the city centre. Don’t hesitate to sample several dishes on the menu, because today will be an active day!

  • Midday: exploring in & around Leuven

Yesterday you already visited some of the most famous highlights in Leuven, and today we continue our tour. If you like walking, you can set off on your own along one of the signposted walks. For example, there is the street art walk that shows you Leuven from a different perspective. Or perhaps you’d rather have a guide? Check out the range offered by the guide organisations.
Curious about the broader environment of Leuven? Why not rent a bike and explore? Make sure you stop off at Hal 5, just behind the station in Kessel-Lo. A few years ago, this vacant railway hall was converted into a sustainable meeting place. It’s a fabulous place with an urban vibe, ideal for an aperitif among the locals.

  • Afternoon: cultural finale

A visit to museum M is also essential if you spend a weekend in Leuven. Not only will you marvel at the unique architecture of the building; the different collections are also worth seeing. Finally, in the museum café you can enjoy a delicious piece of cake - the perfect end to a perfect weekend, and the moment to plan your next weekend away!
